SUMMARY OF LECTURE ONE
The first lecture was an introduction to the unit. I learned more about the ECU website and where various things could be accessed, like unit materials on blackboard in my ECU. One tip was that we should avoid using the e-mail application in blackboard and rather use our ECU e-mail account. We were also advised to get to know the campus soon.
The course will show me how to efficiently access information that I need to continue my studies. I will need to add posts to my blog each week as a summary of what I have learned. This will be assignment 1 and is ongoing. Assignment 2 is a group assignment and we will be marked both as a group and as an individual. At the end of the semester there will be an exam. I need to go to all the lectures and tutorials and check my e-mail and blackboard regularly. As a "beginner" I will need to put in more time and effort initially. We can e-mail our tutors with any questions regarding the unit.
SUMMARY OF WORKSHOP ONE
We logged on to the ECU website and went into SIMO and saw where to find and change our enrolment details and also find our timetable. We practised sending and recieving e-mails. We logged into blackboard to (the learning management system) and learned how to use it.
We then had to set up a weblog at http://www.blogger.com/. which was all very new to me. I was doing things without really understanding. Registering with imageshack at www.imageshack.us. was straightfoward but trying to do my first screencapture was a nightmare! I was disappointed with my screen capture but realised that if I click on "Preview" and then on the screencapture is is enlarged on the screen and quite easy to read. I found the readings detailed and difficult. The whole week's work took a long time but I managed to complete the set tasks.

SUMMARY OF "HOW PERSONAL COMPUTERS WORK"
This article gave an overview of the major working components of the computer such as the CPU, RAM and power supply as well as the main PC connections including those used for input and output, for different ports and also networking. This was followed by an explanation of the process of what is happening inside the computer from when it is switched on, to what the BIOS software is doing through to data input, storage, printing and shutdown.
Personal computers have already extended beyond the desk computer to laptops,PDA's and wearable items. The author shows that due to physical limitations, the silicon microprocessors currently used, will become outdated, and DNA and quantum computers will replace them as faster, smaller and more efficient computers.
SUMMARY OF "WELCOME TO PC LUBE AND TUNE"
This article attempts to provide the reader with a guide that can be used to demystify some of the technical issues relating to computers.
Beginning with a basic introduction to PC hardware it then goes on to discuss errors that can occur on a program and how the programs deal with these errors. Graphic user interface and also monitors are explained and an in-depth account of digital TV and how it is replacing analogue TV is given. It also deals with various computer applications, operating systems as well as communications protocol used on the Internet. I found this reading detailed and difficult to understand.
